Analytical Solution for Rock Discontinuity Prediction Without Stereonet

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Stereographic projection has been used in Rock Engineering for decades to represent rock mass discontinuities graphical form and carry out further stability analysis. Currently, there are computer programs available this purpose. The objective of technical note is present some closed expressions related stereographic projections such as the prediction a possible joint set. These solutions can be implemented spreadsheets or would benefit analysis masses with discontinuities. This helps reduce work load hand enhance modern computational tools stereonet, where rotation snap features not yet.

The Effect of Discontinuity Persistence on Rock Slope Stability

l f Discominuity persistence has a major effect on rock mass resistance (strength) but, as direct mapping ofdiscominuities imemal to a rock mass is not possible, persistence is a difficult parameter to measure. As a result, the conservative approach of assuming full persistence is often taken. /n this paper a method is developed for relating rock mass stability and hence persistence to the geom...

Modeling Roughness of Rock Discontinuity Surfaces: A Signal Analysis Approach

Barton’s (1973) model for estimating the peak shear strength of rock discontinuity surfaces includes an input variable, called joint roughness coefficient (JRC). Using this model, Barton and Choubey (1977) empirically determined the JRC values of a large number of discontinuities and designated a set of ten roughness profiles (Fig. 1) that represents the JRC range of 0–20. These ten profiles co...

Discontinuity data analysis from oriented boreholes

This paper presents ongoing research in improvement of analytical tools for the characterization of rock mass structure from oriented borehole discontinuity data. Using automated multivariate cluster analysis and the “three dimensional stereonet” provides for fast and objective characterization of oriented core discontinuity data. Improvements to the CYL software include three new methods of cl...

An Analytical Solution for Inverse Determination of Residual Stress Field

An analytical solution is presented that reconstructs residual stress field from limited and incomplete data.  The inverse problem of reconstructing residual stresses is solved using an appropriate form of the airy stress function.  This function is chosen to satisfy the stress equilibrium equations together with the boundary conditions for a domain within a convex polygon.  The analytical solu...
